General Statement of Job: An Instructional Teacher Assistant in the Exceptional Children’s Department must be committed to serving our neediest students with a wide range of disabilities and special needs including all aspects of student access to their educational environment.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the educational development of pupils under the direction of the EC teacher.
- Assist in the monitoring of Individual Education Programs for student progress.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
- Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, regular education and special education teachers.
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student data records.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of the EC teacher.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning.
- Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Assist the EC teacher to ensure that all instructional materials and equipment are available.
- Coordinate with other professionals to utilize instructional aids and equipment.
- Coordinate with nursing staff to provide student support through personal care needs in order for them to fully access the educational environment.
- Utilize Behavior Intervention and Crisis Prevention training to de-escalate and intervene for students with behavioral difficulties.
- Other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Exceptional Children in the provision of student service provision.
- Obtain and maintain a bus license.
- Supervise EC students in all settings of the school environment.
- Attend trainings and staff development as determined appropriate by the principal and EC Director.
- Serve as a monitor for significantly needy students in transition and transport.
- High School diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework is required.
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.
