Position: Phlebotomy Instructor (Part-time)

The Phlebotomy Instructor duties include but are not limited to teaching mandated curriculums, program guidelines and regulation, and teaching students to perform basic phlebotomy techniques in compliance with appropriate state and national agencies. The Instructor will provide theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection.

The Instructor will evaluate the competency of each student through laboratory/skill practice and clinical evaluations. Duties also include maintaining academic, attendance, and student records. Travel to clinical sites is required.

• Certification in phlebotomy or equivalent preferred
• Licensed as LPN, ADN, BSN, or Paramedic Phlebotomist and credentialing/certifications or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum of 2 years work experience
• Teaching and laboratory/clinical experience preferred, but not required

Working Conditions

• Classroom, lab, or shop environment
• Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress
• Some light lifting of materials pertaining to lab projects

• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
• Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, telecourse, interactive technology, when appropriate
• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
• Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
• Perform assessments of students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills and incorporate core competencies into program content
• Evaluate student performance consistently and fairly
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit required record management documentation timely

Evaluation of Student Learning

• Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
• Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
• Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
• Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
