Position: Professional Tutor - Nursing (Part-time)

Professional Tutor – Nursing

The Professional Tutor – Nursing will provide tutoring to LCC's nursing program students and anatomy and physiology students via individual and small group sessions located in the Academic Support Center on LCC's Main Campus. These sessions may be held virtually if a student is enrolled in online courses. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students who may need supplemental help.

Health Science tutors provide subject-area knowledge and serve as a model for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs successful learners should employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems, and complete academic tasks. Other assistance may include reviewing class material, reviewing test questions, working on solutions to problems, or practicing clinical skills.

Qualifications
  • Must be a licensed registered nurse with at least 6 months prior field experience
  • Must be able to provide RN license number
  • Must be able to provide flexible tutorial hours (mostly afternoon availability)
  • Must be up to date with current practices in the field
  • Must have a passion for student success
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Professional Tutor - Nursing will include:

  • Complete daily activity reports which include detailed information of tutoring sessions
  • Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions on time and notify the Academic Support and RISE Transition Coordinator if a session must be cancelled
  • Meet with students on a one-to-one or small-group tutoring format to provide learning assistance
  • Review the tutor/client contract with each student during their first session to establish the parameters of the tutoring relationship
  • Check email daily to receive work notifications
  • Conduct tutoring sessions via set work hours and/or scheduled appointments
  • Attend any mandatory tutor training sessions as required by the Academic Support and RISE Transition Coordinator
  • Contact the instructor of the course if necessary to clarify instructions or assignments
  • Minimize socialization and remain focused on the subject
  • Build and maintain professional work relationships with both instructors and students
  • Learn and use technology, when appropriate, to enhance the educational experience
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources
