Position: Cosmetology Instructor - Continuing Education (Part-Time)

The part-time Cosmetology Instructor will support primary instructors in teaching manicurist and cosmetology classes.

Instructors may teach theory, labs, and practicals and instruct students by using mannequins and live models.

  • NC Cosmetology Instructor license is required
  • Current license and experience as a nail technician/cosmetologist and/or a NC Cosmetology Instructor credential is needed for this instructor to teach lessons and labs on client services for manicures and cosmetology services according to NC Cosmetology Board guidelines
  • Applicant should have at least two years of work experience as a licensed cosmetologist
  • Knowledge of current NC Cosmetic Board regulations and requirements for educational institutions is required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Teaching experience at a community college preferred
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred
Working Conditions
  • Day/evening/weekend hours are required

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline

  • Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Teaching Performance
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning (This includes lesson plans for each class meeting.)
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
  • Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, tele-course, interactive technology, when appropriate
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
  • Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance
Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
  • Conduct laboratory/clinic/practicum activities
  • Assign laboratory activities that coincide with the material presented in lecture sessions as appropriate
  • Preside over all scheduled laboratory activities and hours
  • Ensure that time is spent productively by students working on appropriate assignments
  • Provide the opportunity for individual student attention
  • Evaluate students and provide them specific feedback
  • Provide additional assignments/projects as student progress dictates
  • Order supplies as needed by following school procedure
  • Assist in maintaining a clean lab and clean equipment
  • Conduct initial troubleshooting measures on equipment and promptly label and report all equipment in need of repair
