Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for MRB Engineers (Design & Stress) to join our Engineering department based in Kinston, North Carolina. In this multifaceted role, you will immerse yourself in an environment designed to rapidly advance your expertise in aircraft structure, design, and systems while serving as a key technical authority. You will support production concessions of complex aircraft structures, developing and documenting analysis to support high-quality solutions.

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Your challenges:

  • Determine design solutions for manufacturing non-conformities, airframe repairs and reworks, and modifications to the aircraft definition and assess design deviations or non-conformances for metallic, composite and hybrid structures.
  • Perform design efforts and/or stress analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts.
  • Methods include the use of multiple applications to research aircraft configurations and develop efficient solutions to satisfy airworthiness requirements.
  • Ensuring the safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance while adhering to the terms of Ensure appropriate Airbus methods, processes and procedures are followed. For Stress position, this includes performing stress calculations for structure to assess the design solution.
  • Liaise with and support stakeholders such as Design, Stress, Manufacturing, Quality and other Airbus departments as necessary to come up with optimum solutions and ensure Stress requirements are fully integrated.
  • Develop and maintain component / aircraft familiarity, to ensure prompt response to build.
  • Develop towards and maintain Technical Signature Delegation for nonconformances and concessions for primary and secondary aircraft structures.
  • Check and Approve / Pre-approve design solution or stress justification for non-conformity or modification of the concession.

Your boarding pass:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, or Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis, and/or mechanics of materials.
  • At least 5 years of experience analyzing and/or designing primary airframe structures.
  • Broad range of standard hand and computer methods. (e.g. ISAMI, GFEM, DFEM, CATIA, etc.)
  • Experience in composite aircraft structure (airframe)
  • A strong computer background, including MS Office application experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
  • Authorized to Work in the US
  • Prefer experience with Airbus commercial aircraft.

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote:
    Onsite 90%
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
