Summary:

Performs Laboratory procedures and tests in a prompt, accurate and reliable manner, according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
The Medical Technologist provides accurate and timely laboratory services for the patients, nursing staff and medical staff of the hospital, as well as outside agencies affiliated to the hospital such as home health agencies, nursing homes, and physician offices.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associates of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or 60 semester hours of college credit including classes in chemistry and biology and a one-year curriculum in clinical laboratory techniques or a twelve-month military medical laboratory- training program.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Two years is preferred.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
Registry is preferred by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or by an equivalent agency.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

REQUIREMENTS
Moderate proficiency in phlebotomy at all age levels. Computer literate. Strong communication, cooperation and teamwork skills. Customer focused.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Due to indirect or direct contact, you may be at risk for exposure to tuberculosis, blood borne pathogens (which include HIV and Hepatitis

B), and/or other potential infectious diseases. Exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning). Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Working and standing throughout shift. Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds. Responsible for lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects. Moderate level of manual and finger dexterity. High color discrimination.
