What You’ll Do- Employee Relations:
Foster a positive labor and employee relations environment, facilitate workplace investigations or inquiries under the guidance of the site HR leader, maintain and enhance the location’s HR initiatives, promote a culture of trust and engagement, and regularly visit the production floor to engage employees. - Retention and Workforce Management:
Collaborate with plant management to maintain hourly production employee retention, complete data entry and time‑attendance reviews, manage job/vacation bid processes, assist with job fairs, training, onboarding, labor relations, payroll processing, and partner with Talent Acquisition on job requisitions. - Communication and Training:
Communicate Smithfield’s ROI guiding principles (Responsibility, Operational Excellence, and Innovation) and provide resources to empower employees (FMLA, LOA, ADA, Workday Resources, etc.). - Data Management and Compliance:
Assist with HR‑related audits (SMETA/SWA), maintain accurate records in HRIS, and ensure data integrity and compliance with policies and regulations. - Strategic Human Resources Guidance:
Work with the site HR leader to drive HR department success, guide on HR policies, handle labor relation meetings, manage records, address employee inquiries, coordinate community relations and events, analyze HR data for workforce planning, and support on‑the‑job training initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field and 2+ years of related experience; or equivalent education and experience.
- Employment Law Knowledge:
Solid understanding of employment law practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. - Confidentiality & Integrity:
Proven ability to manage sensitive information with utmost confidentiality and discretion. - Communication
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication, able to convey information clearly and collaborate effectively across all levels.
- Language
Skills:
Bilingual in Spanish or another language preferred. - HR Systems & Technology:
Experience administering benefits, compensation, and other HR programs; proficiency in HRIS systems such as Workday, payroll, time‑keeping systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Previous Workday/HCM experience preferred.
- Majority of time spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.
- Plant environment includes wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level usually moderate but can be loud in the production area.
- Frequently required to sit, use hands, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
- Capable of sitting for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
