Equipment Maintenance Technician - Tooling

Location:

Kinston, NC

Airbus is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner (per DoDI 1322.29). This 180‑day program allows transitioning service members to leverage their military technical expertise in a high‑precision aerospace environment.

Skill Bridge Eligibility
  • Active‑duty service member within 180 days of separation.
  • Written Commander (O‑4 or above) authorization.
  • Must have current work authorization for U.S. positions.
Meet the Team

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility specializes in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures for the Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Your Challenges
  • Dismantles, moves, assembles, installs, and repairs industrial machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions.
  • Dismantles equipment and machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Assembles and installs equipment such as conveyors and tram rails; constructs foundations; aligns machines; performs scheduled inspection and maintenance; sets up and operates machine tools and fabrication machinery to rework or make new parts.
  • Performs root/cause analysis in support of reliability processes, collaborating with vendors, engineering, team leader, customer, other crafts and management to solve equipment problems and develop corrective action.
  • Reworks and maintains tools of all types and materials; performs routine minor machine maintenance as part of daily duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, changing light bulbs, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc.).
  • Repairs and builds lay‑up tools.
  • Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine necessary repair and maintenance work to prevent breakdowns.
  • Uses hand and power tools; tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment using PLC, CNC, and blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
Your Boarding Pass
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a production environment.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Team‑working mindset.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Workkeys Assessment completion OR High School Diploma/GED.
  • Move and place heavy equipment, real property and installed property in accordance with established methods.
  • Accomplish necessary rigging.
Physical Requirements
  • Onsite: 100% – Daily.
  • Vision – able to see and read computer screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings. Several times a day.
  • Hearing – able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Several times a day.
  • Speaking – able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Daily.
  • Equipment operation – able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some production tools such as hydraulic lifts. Several times a month.
  • Carrying – able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kgs. Daily.
  • Lifting – able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kgs. Daily.
  • Pushing / Pulling – able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Daily.
  • Sitting – able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer. Several times daily.
  • Squatting / Kneeling – able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Daily.
  • Standing – able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor. Daily.
  • Travel – able to travel independently and at short notice. Infrequently a few times a year.
