Sanitation Equipment Operator-Street Sweeper; Storm Water

Performs semiskilled work operating street sweeper on assigned routes and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned Crew Supervisor and Street Superintendent.

Drives street sweeper over prescribed routes.

Operates equipment in street and pedestrian traffic, around other ground utilities and in other tight places requiring care and skill.

Performs minor repairs and maintenance to assigned equipment; cleans and washes equipment on a periodic basis.

Conducts safety checks prior to operating equipment.

Performs related tasks as required.

General knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment; general knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.; general knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment; skill in the operation of automotive equipment; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to detect signs of the mechanical failure of the automotive equipment;

mechanical aptitude; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates.

Eighth grade education or greater and moderate experience in the operation of motorized equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license in the state of North Carolina. May require possession of or the ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license valid in the state of North Carolina.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work requires reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, and repetitive motion; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; operating machine and observing general surroundings and activities;

work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and exposure to vibrations; work is generally n a very loud noise location.
