The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive, paid opportunity based at Headquarters in Washington, D.C., for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.
This intern position is at the Office of the Executive Vice President (EVP). The EVP, as the Chief Operations Officer of the institution and under the guidance of the Board of Executive Directors and the President of the Bank, is responsible for the operation of the Bank and provides day-to-day management oversight of, and direction to, the Vice Presidents and all other senior staff.
The EVP also oversees the quality control and risk management of all Bank operations and serves as chair of Management committees responsible for the Bank’s operational activities. You will be part of an impactful and multidisciplinary team working on projects, tasks, and activities geared to advise the EVP, Senior Management, and the Bank teams in leading critical issues for the organization.
The intern will work in at least a subset of the following tasks, to be defined in their work program in agreement with the EVP Office. The selection of tasks will be based on the intern’s background and experience as well as on business needs.
- Project pipeline data analytics: Conduct comprehensive analyses of the IDB’s project pipeline (projects under preparation that are expected to reach Board approval), examining patterns, bottlenecks, and key factors that influence and predict preparation timelines and approval outcomes. Using this evidence, build models to increase the predictability of pipeline outcomes.
- Project design quality control: Support the review of the design of IDB loans, guarantees, and technical cooperations for quality control purposes before they are submitted to the Board for approval. Provide constructive feedback to teams on how to improve their projects’ design and advise the EVP on strategic project design issues.
- Support to operations teams: Provide guidance to operations teams on how to apply and comply with existing Bank policies and regulations.
- Operational inputs: Prepare project specific and other operational insights on themes relevant to the EVP Office (e.g., approval trends, project risk factors, fiduciary considerations) and contribute to knowledge management. Prepare briefs, presentations, and other materials to support strategic discussions at the Bank.
- Other projects: Conduct special initiatives and projects assigned by EVP Office staff.
- Education
:
An active graduate student in fields such as International Development, Economics, Public Policy, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Business Administration, or related areas from an accredited University. The expected graduation date should be after the Internship period. - Languages
:
Fluency in English. Working knowledge of another Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus. - Key Skills
