The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on‑job learning.

We are seeking a motivated intern with an interest in regional integration and strong analytical and coordination skills to support the implementation of the South Connection Regional Program (2025–2030), the IDB Group's most recent integration initiative, endorsed by 11 South American governments. South Connection aims to enhance regional connectivity to boost competitiveness and promote sustainable growth, around three mutually reinforcing pillars: (i) enhancing physical and digital infrastructure for regional connectivity;

(ii) optimizing logistics and trade facilitation to streamline processes, reduce costs, and strengthen value chains; and (iii) strengthening regulatory frameworks and institutional capacities, with environmental and social sustainability embedded as a cross‑cutting principle.

The intern will work with the South Connection team, based in the Country Department of the Southern Cone (CSC) and the Country Department of Andean Countries (CAN), in close coordination with the Country Department of the Caribbean (CCB), under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, within the Vice Presidency for Countries (VPC) and in collaboration with other relevant areas of the IDB Group.

As a South Connection intern, you will support the tasks and activities related to the regional integration agenda across the three departments (CSC, CAN, and CCB), including:

• Support the coordination and monitoring of South Connection Program activities, contributing to the articulation among the CSC, CAN, and CCB teams and the IDB Group's sector units.
• Conduct research and analysis on priority regional integration topics (transport and logistics corridors, energy, digital connectivity, trade facilitation, and coordinated border management), preparing technical notes, briefs, and presentations.
• Support the development and updating of the Program's operational pipeline and knowledge agenda, including the monitoring of aligned operations through the Regional Program Matrix and the VPC's monitoring tools.
• Contribute to the preparation of documents, briefings, inputs for dialogues with government counterparts, and communication and outreach materials, in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, as required.
• Support the systematization of studies, diagnostics, and best practices related to integration corridors and subregional initiatives (e.g., the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, SINEA, SIESUR, and Arco Norte).
• Identify complementarities and coordination opportunities with other IDB Group regional programs and initiatives, such as Amazonia Forever, America in the Center, and One Caribbean.
• Support the logistical and substantive organization of meetings, workshops, forums, and regional events.
