Job Description About Our Organization

Lake Washington High School Theatre has a long history of high quality stage productions.

We focus on teaching theatre skills applicable to our students in both community and professional theatre.

But most importantly, the skills that students learn in theatre apply to nearly all other career choices.

We promote learning opportunities in the performing arts that spark knowledge, self-confidence, leadership skills, critical thinking, empathy, understanding and acceptance of others, taking responsibility, public speaking, and inspire creative thinking, individual expression, and to contribute as a valuable member of a close-knit team.

Our Inclusive Theatre Program

Expose students to all aspects of the practice of theatre including but not limited to acting, stage management, set design and set building, script writing, lighting & sound, improv, directing, dancing, singing, and movement.

Engage parents and community members in all aspects of creating community theatre.

Provide fun, inspiring, entertaining and affordable live theater events for the East Side community.

Educational Philosophy

Our program operates under core values or “covenants”:

  • M
    - Mentorship
    - We value and support all incoming artists and lift them up. Everyone can be a mentor, and everyone can benefit from one. We value the mentorship of our teachers and trust that they have our best interests at heart.
  • A
    - Accountability
    - We take responsibility for our behavior and maintain personal integrity. We recognize the importance of intent, but also the impact of our actions.
  • G
    - Growth
    - We never decide our performance or program is “good enough” but always strive to improve. The goal is learning, not perfection
  • I
    - Inclusion
    - We welcome everyone and create a safe space in our theater and theatre community.
  • C
    - Communication
    - We communicate our needs, safety issues, concerns and successes. WE communicate these things in a timely manner.
This Shows Up in Our Community
  • Choosing shows that challenge our students every year, while giving them the most opportunity to shine.
  • Building a safe community where a good show is the outcome of fun, healthy relationships, and hard work.
  • Maintaining relationships with students and families before, during, and after program participation (may include seeing elementary and middle school shows, other shows students participate in during their time with us, supporting them post graduation).
  • Appreciating that each student is a human and caring for the human first, not the artist first.
  • Prioritizing mental health and safety within our community. The show “must go on” but not for every individual. We have a healthy use of understudies, swings, and reliable flexing from our cast members.
  • Student voice and leadership is highly important and an expected part of the program.
