Job Overview

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part‑time instructors for the Environmental Horticulture Program. The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. College teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred. The campus is located just outside Seattle, in Kirkland, Washington.

Recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future part‑time faculty vacancies. Candidates will be contacted for interview if selected for a potential future vacancy.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to course outcomes
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
  • Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non‑discrimination
  • Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
  • Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformity with identified policies and procedures
  • Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
  • Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self‑directed learning
  • Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)
Qualifications
  • Associates degree in horticulture or related fields
  • 2 years related work experience
  • Possess mastery‑level understanding of plants common to the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest
  • College teaching experience preferred
  • Industry certifications preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations
  • Multilingual applicants are encouraged
Compensation & Benefits

Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part‑time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part‑time faculty salary schedule (Appendix

B).

Step ranges:

  • Step 1: $738.38 – $2,335.13
  • Step 2: $819.15 – $2,457.46
  • Step 3: $835.95 – $2,507.85
  • Step 4: $893.51 – $2,680.54
  • Step 5: $916.30 – $2,748.90
  • Step 6: $957.08 – $2,871.24

Benefits are provided to part‑time faculty after they have worked 50% full‑time or more for two consecutive quarters (within LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, sick leave, bereavement leave, employee assistance program, free tuition (50% of FT or more for two consecutive quarters), reduced child‑care costs at the Early Learning Center, reduced bus fare, and professional development opportunities.
