Lake Washington Institute Of Technology Part Time Instructor
Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington.
Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and Evergreen Health, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo. • Prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain diesel related systems in tractor trailer, locomotive, mass transit, heavy equipment, power generation and marine applications, including but not limited to: o Welding and fabrication, vehicle chassis and frames o Electro-mechanical control systems o Electro pneumatic control systems o Electro-hydraulic control systems o Hydraulic engine control systems o Pneumatic engine control systems o Marine propulsion control systems o Off-highway equipment motion control systems o On/off-highway Telemetric systems o Electronic logging devices o Power generation control systems o Electrical circuits, electronics, multiplexing, body control modules and instrumentation o Principles of technology o Power trains, clutches, converters, transmissions, and differentials o Finals, undercarriage, steering, suspension and alignment o Pneumatic systems and traction control o Fluid power components and schematics o Brake systems, ABS and EBS components and configuration o Engines, emissions, fuel injection, subsystems and controls
• Plan and develop a variety of program courses appropriate to the diesel program goals; develop and assess curriculum
• Teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college; develop and incorporate instructional methods that support best learning practices; model the communication, computation, and human relations skills required for employment in diesel technology fields
• Develop and teach lessons that foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination; design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual students
• Develop and maintain classroom and lab procedures, including safety, that follow local, state, and federal policies and procedures; share responsibility for educational facilities and equipment
• Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, including but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials that support the instructional process; evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, and provide clear, timely feedback; deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in the assigned teaching field and technical field
• Develop and maintain industry and community support for diesel and transportation programs; attend advisory committee meetings and maintain contact with industry for co-op job placement and follow-up activities
• Be familiar with and advance the college's mission, vision, and goals and how they relate to academic and technical programs; follow college, local, state and federal policies and procedures; attend department and college meetings as appropriate
