Behavioral And Social Services Adjunct Faculty

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington.

Essential Functions
  • Teach college-level Behavioral and Social Services courses
  • Teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum
  • Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
  • Develop and teach lessons that foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination
  • Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
  • Develop classroom and lab procedures (if needed) in conformance with identified policies and procedures
  • Maintain records which indicate student progress and meet college and accreditation requirements
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
  • Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self-directed learning
  • Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, addictions studies, or sociology
  • 2 years of behavioral healthcare and/or social service work experience
  • Strong understanding of behavioral healthcare issues, treatments, and systems of care
  • Support for the values of holistic, client-centered work
  • Abiding hope in recovery for each person
  • Readiness to teach the use of varied intervention skills and methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member

Preferred qualifications

  • Licensure by the state of Washington without restriction as a clinical social worker or mental health counselor
  • Doctoral degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or addictions studies
  • 5 years of behavioral healthcare and/or social service work experience.
  • 2 years of clinical supervisory experience
  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Distance learning experience/ experience
  • Community or technical college experience
  • Recent teaching experience in postsecondary and or vocational/technical education using a variety of methods, including traditional classroom, individualized lab
  • Credentialing by the state of Washington without restriction as a Substance Use Disorder Professional
  • Familiarity with local behavioral healthcare organizations
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience working with and communicating with historically underrepresented communities
  • Experience in writing course curriculum
  • Evidence of recent professional development activity
