Role Description

The Adjunct ESL Faculty member will teach English as a Second Language courses to a diverse student population in a part-time, on-site role located in Kirkland, WA. Responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging lessons, facilitating classroom activities, and supporting students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. The role involves assessing student progress through assignments, quizzes, exams, and participation, and providing timely, constructive feedback.

The faculty member will maintain accurate records of attendance and grades, hold regular office hours or consultation times, and collaborate with program leadership and colleagues to align teaching with curriculum goals and institutional standards. Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English Teaching and Teaching, with experience instructing multilingual learners in ESL or related programs.
  • Curriculum Development skills, including the ability to design, adapt, and assess ESL course materials and learning activities.
  • Background in Literature and English Literature that supports the integration of appropriate texts and cultural content into ESL instruction.
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a closely related field (or significant progress toward completion); relevant certifications (e.g., TESOL/TEFL) preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level, preferably in ESL or ELL contexts, with strong classroom management and engagement strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex language concepts clearly to learners at varying proficiency levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in a multicultural, student-centered environment, and to support the Christian mission of Northwest University.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems to support instruction, assessment, and communication with students.
