Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Hood Design
This position is in the Kenworth Hoods & Bumpers group and will work in a team-based environment focused on the development of designs within the hood and outerbody systems. Design work will be focused on developing mechanical systems in support of new product development projects. In the position, the employee will have the opportunity to work with the product from the design and validation phases through production, working closely with other disciplines across the company to deliver a world‑class product.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems within the hood and outerbody systems in the New Product Hood Design group.
- Utilize Creo modeling software to create complex assemblies that meet both structural and aesthetic goals.
- Work with internal and external organizations to validate the designs.
- Utilize PACCAR and industry systems to manage the product creation process, track costs, project schedules, and support new product introductions.
- Work collaboratively with multiple PACCAR divisions.
- Manage multiple priorities and goals simultaneously.
- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of plant and supplier manufacturing processes associated with the production of hood and outerbody systems.
- Apply creativity to design tasks and problem solving while proposing innovative approaches to standard work.
- BSME or equivalent degree required;
Master's degree and PE/EIT certification desirable. - 3‑5+ years industry‑related background in the design and specification of automotive or outerbody systems required.
- Advanced proficiency using Creo or other solid modeling software required. Experience with surface design and/or Finite Element Analysis desired.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform and/or lead development efforts on design techniques including Design for Six Sigma, Six Sigma, Creo and specific technical competencies.
- Working knowledge of GD&T principles.
- Competency in the use of personal computer software including project management tools, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Willingness to learn and make use of new engineering processes and techniques.
- Experience solving complex technical problems.
- Experience in product development and new product implementation.
- Demonstrated team player.

The salary range for this position is $86,900 – $136,300 annually. This role is also eligible for holiday gift and the full range of benefit options listed above.
