Who We’re Looking ForKirkland Public Works Department is seeking to fill a temporary, limited term Education and Outreach Coordinator vacancy reporting to the Utility Policy and Community Relations Supervisor in the Utility Policy and Solid Waste Division. This position supports Kirkland's waste reduction and recycling programs, education and outreach efforts, and may be based at Kirkland City Hall with a limited hybrid schedule. The position may be filled at 32 - 40 hours per week, with a typical schedule Monday – Friday during business hours and occasional evening and weekend outreach events as needed.
The department plans to fill this temporary vacancy from approximately March through mid-August.

The Public Works Department ensures Kirkland’s infrastructure remains safe, functional, and sustainable. It oversees services including stormwater management, transportation, curbside solid waste collection and recycling, water and wastewater systems, maintenance of streets and grounds, and capital improvement projects. The Education & Outreach Coordinator will research, develop, implement, and coordinate programs to promote community engagement, awareness, and behavior change in support of department goals and projects. Responsibilities include strategic marketing plan development, oversight of assigned communications and outreach programs, creation of web and print publications, media releases, and coordination of special events. The role collaborates with others to implement outreach and education programs.
DistinguishingCharacteristics
The Education & Outreach Coordinator independently facilitates activities and communications between departments, programs, cities, and outside organizations. This may include regional public outreach and education materials through inter-departmental committees. The role involves technical review and analysis of data and reports. The Environmental Education & Outreach Specialist role is more focused on providing technical support rather than facilitating public engagement.
