Position: RN - FMC Postpartum Lactation (.75 FTE, Days)

Wage Range: $48.21 - $87.11 per hour

We are seeking an experienced Lactation Nurse to join our Family Maternity Center. This position is self-scheduling.

Job Summary

Registered Nurses on the Family Maternity Center (FMC) are responsible for the total direct nursing care of all patients within established standards of care, hospital and unit policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Primary Duties
  • Provides evidence-based care and resources to breastfeeding/chest feeding patients and their families in the inpatient unit(s) including but not limited to Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, NICU, Pediatrics, Med Surg and ICU.
  • Participates in the assessment, management, education, and instruction for the breastfeeding/chest feeding patient.
  • Provides assistance with breast milk pumping, pump usage, management of breast milk collection and storage, and obtaining breast pumps for home use.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to human milk and breastfeeding/chest feeding.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of overall institutional policies and procedures relating to breastfeeding/chest feeding, human milk and lactation.
  • Provides education to staff on breastfeeding/chest feeding and lactation support.
  • Participates with physician partners and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient and family/significant other plan of care.
  • Effectively communicates all relevant information (e.g., patient information, safety issues, problems with equipment, quality issues, etc.) to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Communicates and documents changes in patient condition to charge nurse/supervisor and physician in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • License, Certification, Education or Experience REQUIRED for the position
    • Graduate of a nursing program (Nursing Diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and/or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree)
    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington OR holding a multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) license
    • Current Healthcare Provider BLS – American Heart Association by start date
    • Demonstrated competency and experience providing breastfeeding/chest feeding education to patients throughout care continuum
    • IBCLC is required within two (2) years of hire date
    • NRP certification within four (4) weeks of hire
    DESIRED for the position
    • Master’s in Nursing (MSN)
    • Minimum three (3) years nursing experience in a maternal/child setting.
    • Minimum of 75 hours lactation specific continuing education within the last 5 years.
