Meat Cutter

The Meat Cutter is responsible for performing duties as directed by the Meat Manager and/or Asst. Meat Manager, directly contributing to the successful operation of the Front-end Department. The Meat Cutter ensures all Kennie’s customers are provided with the highest quality products and customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Stock meat case with a variety of meat products and maintain the proper placement of signs.
  • Remove any product from the case that is outdated or unappealing for sale.
  • Assist with cleaning the meat case once per week, thoroughly and as necessary on a daily basis.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the meat equipment and the prep area according to State Health Regulations.
  • Possess full knowledge of cutting beef, pork, lamb, veal and poultry.
  • Grind and pack a selection of beef products.
  • Shape, lace and tie meats cut by hand to form roasts.
  • Place meat in containers to be wrapped by others.
  • Display meat on trays in special order case.
  • Order supplies, fresh and frozen meat.
  • Unload meat from delivery truck and store in refrigerator.
  • Provide customers with prompt and courteous service/assistance.
  • Cooperate with fellow department employees and with other departments when inter‑departmental or store‑wide promotions warrant.
  • Obey all safety standards as outlined by the company.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as directed by the Meat Manager, Assistant Meat Manager, Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager.
Requirements
  • Education/

    Experience:

    High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) to four (4) years of related experience and/or training.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions for equipment, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to customers and employees.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
