General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times.
Area Supervisors also execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
- Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone.
- Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Responsible for building security including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance daily function checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Responsible for customer safety, including accident prevention, accident reporting and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Company Dress Code. Ensure all Associates adhere to the Dress Code at all times.
- Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handle receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
- Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
- Ensure back‑stock is secured, processed, and merchandised per Company policy.
- Reduce loss due to damage and ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
- Handle floor moves and signage, including promotional signing, and re‑wraps as needed.
- Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a large Customer service presence on the sales floor.
- Engage Customers and Associates and maintain heightened Loss Prevention awareness.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
- Conduct Code 50 package inspections.
- Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
- Ensure Associates execute to Company standards at the Front End.
- Maintain pace, energy and presence at the Front End, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
- Control Retail Associates’ break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment works properly and maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
