Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic 1
Location: Battle Ground, WA
Close: August 17th, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Position Status: This is a permanent position.
Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 independently performs a variety of responsibilities that include general maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties. This position will utilize a working knowledge of several related skills, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and machinist work. This position will also install, repair, inspect, and maintain physical facilities (i.e., buildings, facilities, and grounds), machinery, and equipment within the Battle Ground Area.
This position is not eligible to telework, as physical in-office presence is required to perform essential functions.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills and will be an outstanding team player. Any previous work with small engines, basic vehicle maintenance and building/facilities maintenance will be beneficial.

Duties- Performs general work in maintenance, repair, remodel, and alteration in construction and maintenance of area facilities, ground, vehicles, and equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance to park buildings and other park facilities.
- Maintains and repairs plumbing, and sewage systems with the ability to provide minor electrical repairs.
- Coordinates with management, other employees, volunteers, and correctional crews during maintenance and repair projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
AND
- Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
- CPR certification within first six (6) months of employment.
DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a Parks and Recreation field.
- Entry level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Experience leading and/or supervising lower-level staff.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Knowledge and experience working with various hand & power tools.
- A strong understanding and commitment to meeting health and safety standards, as well as building and permit codes, ensuring all work is performed correctly and safely.
- Having a "safety-first" mindset—someone who instinctively uses PPE, follows OSHA/state protocols, and understands the risks of working on sewage and electrical systems.
- The commitment to high-quality workmanship, including meticulous record-keeping, precise measurement, and careful execution of all maintenance and repair tasks.
- The physical capability to perform demanding manual labor across a variety of tasks and environments, including the ability to work safely.
- Knowledge of how maintenance impacts the visitor’s “memorable recreational experience” and a demonstrated respect for the grounds (mowing, trimming, drainage).
- Working knowledge of specific skilled trades. Must be able to demonstrate competence in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry to independently maintain park infrastructure like recreation units and shower meters.
- The ability to follow a schedule, diagnose wear and tear before it becomes a failure, and perform routine servicing on vehicles and equipment to extend their lifespan.
- Must be a self-starter. Needs the judgment to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and solve problems on-site without needing a supervisor to green-light every minor repair.
- Effectively coordinating with management, area staff, and volunteers to ensure project completion.
