Machine Learning Engineer, Geometry Team

Position Overview

The Geometry team builds an early layer of perception, focusing on background subtraction, ground segmentation, and obstacle generation. Projects on this team require a blend of machine learning, geometric algorithms, onboard sensing, and efficient, robust code. This role supports the transition of low-level perception tasks from algorithmic approaches to machine‑learning solutions.

• Combine ML and geometric algorithms to solve 3‑D spatial reasoning problems.
• Apply machine‑learning techniques to build multimodal sensor‑fusion architectures and spatial‑temporal representation learners for object detection and tracking, occupancy and semantic segmentation, and road understanding.
• Develop scalable recipes for large‑scale data and model training on Alphabet's compute infrastructure, including pre‑training and post‑training methods.
• Create distributed fine‑tuning recipes that enable multiple developers to improve models simultaneously and prevent regression against production systems.
• Maintain model‑evaluation recipes and metrics to measure and improve performance of pre‑trained and fine‑tuned models.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent deep‑learning experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Computer Vision.
• Proficiency with Python and familiarity with C++.
• Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or Tensor Flow.

• MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Salary Range: $175,000 – $215,000 USD
