- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience leading projects and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
- 8 years of leadership and management experience.
- Experience with distributed processing and large-scale data processing.
- Experience with C++, Spanner, API design, API development, database design, Flume.
- Experience with caching, content delivery, and cloud computing.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
- Experience architecting, building, and maintaining large-scale, high-performance distributed systems.
- Experience building/designing distributed systems, replicated state machines, database systems, infrastructure systems, networking, storage systems.
- Experience in distributed systems at the graduate level or above.
- Experience with large-scale systems which involve low latency fan‑out and fan‑in, and experience with debugging and triaging issues for large‑scale production systems.
- Experience in people management, including setting technical direction, leading complex projects, and influencing executive stakeholders.
Software Engineering Managers at Google lead teams of engineers across multiple projects and locations, providing technical leadership, managing project schedules and budgets, and contributing to product strategy. The role focuses on building and operating systems that enable first‑party developers to write faster, more efficient applications with less effort. The Caching group in Storage for AI Foundations builds systems such as Slicer, Punctual, Memstore, and Static Content Serving to handle non‑authoritative application state in memory or persistent storage.
Work includes managing a product budget, overseeing large‑scale project deployment across international sites, and influencing technical decisions across Google. Individual pay ranges from US $207 000 to $301 000, plus a 20% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
Responsibilities- Mentor early‑career software engineers (SWEs), help teams execute effectively, and facilitate relationships with cross‑functional partners and customers across Google.
- Provide engineering and managerial leadership.
- Manage project schedules, identify execution risks, and communicate them clearly to stakeholders.
- Work with customer teams across multiple product areas to understand requirements for caching services and applications.
- Develop tools and processes to improve software engineering productivity for the team and organization.
