- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.
- 5 years of experience in software development.
- 4 years of experience in people management or team leadership.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in one or more of the following: storage, compute, networking, high-performance computing or internal tools and infrastructure management.
Software Engineering Managers at Google lead teams of engineers to design, build, and scale systems, providing technical leadership and guiding product strategy across multiple projects, including areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large‑scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design, and more.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, actively supporting their career development and daily execution.
- Provide technical leadership to guide the team in designing, developing, and deploying a highly scalable Persistent Disk (PD) I/O stack.
- Partner with and influence cross‑functional stakeholders across Persistent Disk and Google Compute Engine (GCE) to drive strategic initiatives.
- Navigate ambiguity to define, scope, and solve complex technical challenges where the architectural path is not initially clear.
- Manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, oversee a large product budget and the deployment of large‑scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
- Oversee the management of exabytes of data and the development of storage solutions trusted by tens of thousands of enterprises worldwide.
US: $207,000 - $301,000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
