Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a Level III trauma center in Kirksville, MO, requiring at least 2 years of ED experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details
  • Position is based in the Emergency Department of a 93-bed acute care hospital with an 11-bed ED unit averaging approximately 1,100 patient visits per month
  • Designated as a Level III Trauma Center, ACC Chest Pain/STEMI Center, and Joint Commission Acute Ready Stroke Center
  • Serves patients of all ages, from neonates to elderly, across ESI levels 1–5
  • Patient ratio is 4–5:1, based on an average ESI level 3 acuity
  • Night shift hours: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM, weekends required
  • Common cases include stroke, STEMI, trauma, and sepsis patients, as well as boarded psychiatric patients awaiting placement
  • EMR is EDIS Medhost; medication dispensing via Omnicell (no barcode medication administration in the ED)
  • Floating to other departments is required; agency and permanent staff share the same float rotation (average of approximately 1 float shift per 13-week contract)
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active MO RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC (no certifications may expire within the first 30 days of the contract start)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ED RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of prior travel nursing experience required
  • Proficiency in required clinical skills: triage, PIV placement, port access/deaccess, foley placement, NG/OG tube placement, wound care, and splint/OCL application
  • Ability to assist with arterial line, central line, and chest tube placement
  • Must be able to mix medication drips with a vial-to-bag adapter on night shift
  • Valid U.S. driver's license required for consideration
  • U.S. Social Security Number required for consideration
  • No employment gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
Additional Information
  • Department operates with a direct-to-bed model and functions as a team; RNs are expected to answer call lights and assist with patient transport
  • On nights and weekends, ED RNs are responsible for making placement calls for boarded psychiatric patients
  • RNs are responsible for ensuring EMTALA paperwork is completed in accordance with regulatory and hospital policy guidelines
  • Ultrasound-guided IV placement experience is preferred but not required
  • Preceptor and/or charge nurse experience is preferred; willingness to eventually assist with precepting is required, though not immediately
  • RTO requests must be less than one week in duration
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
  • Candidates who have worked at any CHS facility as permanent staff within the past 2 years will not be considered
  • Blocked scheduling may be requested
