St. Peter Catholic School seeks a caring, dependable, and attentive Playground Monitor to provide supervision and support for students during recess and other assigned outdoor activities. Rooted in the mission of St. Peter Parish to form disciples of Christ through a vibrant faith community, the Playground Monitor plays an important role in helping create a safe, respectful, welcoming, and positive environment for students.
Working under the direction of school administration, the Playground Monitor actively supervises students, reinforces school expectations, encourages positive interactions, and responds appropriately to student needs and safety concerns.
Job ResponsibilitiesStudent Supervision & Safety
- Actively supervise students during assigned recess periods and other designated outdoor activities
- Maintain consistent visual awareness of students and remain actively engaged throughout the supervision period
- Help ensure students use playground equipment and outdoor spaces safely and appropriately
- Monitor playground boundaries and designated student areas
- Respond promptly to injuries, unsafe behavior, conflicts, or other concerns and notify appropriate school personnel as needed
- Follow school procedures for emergencies, injuries, severe weather, and other safety situations
Student Behavior & Support
- Reinforce school rules, playground expectations, and appropriate student behavior in a fair and consistent manner
- Encourage kindness, inclusion, good sportsmanship, and respectful interactions among students
- Assist students in resolving minor conflicts appropriately and seek assistance from school staff when additional support is needed
- Use positive redirection and age-appropriate guidance when addressing student behavior
- Foster positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Faith Formation & Mission Support
- Support the Catholic identity and mission of St. Peter School through daily interactions and conduct
- Model Christian values, kindness, patience, respect, and professionalism in all interactions
- Help foster a caring and faith-centered school community where every student is treated with dignity
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and school administration
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues and students
- Report significant behavioral, safety, or student concerns to the appropriate staff member or administrator
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school matters
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting school supervision needs as assigned
Professional Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and maintain dependable attendance for assigned shifts
- Complete required Archdiocesan compliance training, including Safe Environment requirements
- Follow school policies, procedures, supervision protocols, and direction from administration
- Demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, attentiveness, adaptability, and a positive attitude
- Refrain from personal phone use or other distractions while actively supervising students except in an emergency or as directed by school administration
