Quality Inspector – 3rd Shift

Shift Details

3rd shift: 10:30 pm – 6:30 am (premium $2.50 per hour)

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector supervises the inspection of incoming materials, work‑in‑progress and finished products to meet specifications and quality standards.

  • Floor Needs
    • Assist in start‑up at the beginning of shifts
    • Assist in new part start‑up and checkout
    • Manage weld verification (cut/etch)
    • Available as needed
  • Customer Needs
    • Address new product needs and requirements
    • First part approvals and ISIRs
    • Assist in solving customer quality issues
    • Statistical analysis as required (process capability, R&R)
  • Quality Tools
    • Determine suitability of quality tools for inspection of part features
      • Bend boards (wooden or metal)
      • Fixtures (metal)
      • Gauges (pins, threads, feelers, etc.)
      • Measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, tapes, height gauges, etc.)
      • CMM programming and training
    • Purchase quality tooling
      • Work with vendors for design and build of fixtures
      • Order from commercial suppliers
    • Determine proper use of tooling
      • Write instructions for use of tooling
      • Train others in use of tooling
    • Manage condition of quality tooling
      • Certification
      • Identification
      • Calibration
      • Maintenance and Repair
      • Storage and control
    • Maintain documentation on quality tooling
      • Tool design and purchase records
      • Database of tool cross‑reference, description, calibration schedule, and storage location
      • Measuring instructions
      • Use instructions (master and on‑floor)
      • Change records (history)
  • New Projects
    • Participate in “New Project Reviews”
      • Determine inspection requirements for new parts
      • Understand critical part features
      • Understand end use of product
      • Suggest tolerance or material revisions
        • Engineering
        • Product Manager
    • New project inspection tooling
      • Determine inspection tool use
      • Specify tool
      • Design and acquire tooling
      • Certify and calibrate tooling
    • First‑Article Approval (ISIR) and documentation
      • Perform full inspection layout and document results
      • Designate part master sample
      • Send sample part(s) to customer with documentation and notify Product Manager
      • Answer customer inquiries regarding samples and data
      • Issue customer approval document when approved, notifying Product Manager, VP Engineering, and Quality Assurance
  • Quality Document Control
    • Ensure floor part drawings are current revision level
    • Ensure quality documents are updated as part drawings are revised
Employment Standards (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
  • Education/

    Experience:

    Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance. Typical qualifications include quality certification or training in quality requirements and SPC, or 2 to 5 years’ experience in quality management.
  • Knowledge: Principles and practices of quality management and SPC. Familiarity with all tools and equipment used in quality control.
  • Skills: Developing and maintaining accurate records and reports; effective use of time and materials to ensure quality parts to the customer on time; analyzing and independently solving process problems; interpersonal communication verbally and in writing with a diverse range of people; maintaining effective business relations with other departments and customers.
