The Teacher – ESE Early Childhood facilitates the critical role of being the instructional leader in the classroom of approximately 9-12 students exhibiting significant behaviors that interfere with their own learning or that of their peers. These students require placement in a more supportive environment, specifically an ESE Self‑contained classroom, which represents a more restrictive educational setting.
Responsibilities- Follow and apply all Danielson instructional framework protocols to provide best instructional practices for all students.
- Participate as an integral member of the IEP team, creating drafts for IEP goals using data from classroom, parents, therapists and other team members.
- Collect and use data to assess the effects of learning experiences, adapt instruction, maintain a portfolio with samples of students’ work, record progress, and follow the Individual Education Plan.
- Provide instruction in both standard and modified curriculum pathways/Access Points.
- Assess and use data from both standard and modified assessment pathways.
- Facilitate and lead classroom teams through development and implementation of functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans and crisis plans for identified students.
- Provide social skills instruction using research‑based methodologies and approved district curricula.
- Implement and coach classroom personnel on research‑based methods of classroom management and behavioral strategies.
- Complete all reporting requirements mandated by district, state, federal and educational agencies (e.g., restraint and seclusion, assessments, behavioral data).
- Collect behavioral data and assist with student crisis intervention.
- Use and model research‑based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions.
- Clearly communicate with families regarding students’ progress, actively involve family members in planning strategies, and maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with families.
- Participate in team meetings, professional learning and school‑based activities.
- Maintain a well‑organized, clean classroom, safely handle hazardous materials and respond promptly to accidents or incidents with documentation.
- Demonstrate punctuality, attendance and compliance with deadlines for IEPs, Individual Family Support Plans, progress reports and testing/assessment, in accordance with policies, procedures, Code of Ethics and Florida Educators Accomplished Practices.
- Ensure and provide basic caregiving duties for students using universal health and safety precautions.
- Apply local and state approved protocols integrating technology and making necessary modifications to media and technology to accommodate all students’ needs.
- Integrate art into curriculum and learning experiences, including necessary modifications for all students.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

- Training in applied behavior analysis or agreement to complete LEA approved training within a designated time frame
- Training in LEA approved positive behavioral strategies used to prevent or deescalate behavior or agreement to complete the training within a designated time frame
- OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
- Florida Professional Teaching Certificate Birth to Age 4 or Pre‑K‑3rd (based on grades taught) AND Exceptional Education Endorsement and ESOL Endorsement (or in process); preferred Autism Endorsement
- Prefer 1 to 3 years teaching experience in a similar setting
- Experience working with children with a variety of behavior needs
- Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education
