Leidos is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Engineer to lead design and review of high-voltage substations supporting critical infrastructure clients. You will develop physical layouts, equipment specifications, grounding and lightning protection, and bus/structure designs using CAD tools. Collaborating with protection, civil, and telecom teams, you'll ensure code compliance, reliability, constructability, and safety. Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers, supporting estimates and proposals, interfacing with utilities, and contributing to continuous improvement in standards, tools, and workflows in a mission-driven, highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead physical design of high-voltage substations, including layout and equipment arrangement
- Develop grounding, lightning protection, and bus/structure designs to applicable codes and standards
- Prepare construction drawings and specifications using CAD and related engineering tools
- Coordinate designs with protection, civil, structural, and telecom engineering teams
- Review designs for safety, reliability, constructability, and compliance with client and industry standards
- Support cost estimates, proposals, and technical input for new substation projects
- Interface with utility and commercial clients to clarify requirements and present design solutions
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers in substation physical design practices
- Participate in continuous improvement of standards, templates, and design workflows
- Support field and construction teams with design clarifications and issue resolution
