Role Overview
The Senior Platform Engineer is responsible for advanced troubleshooting and operational support across critical technology platforms. This role acts as a technical escalation point, coordinating with business stakeholders, internal infrastructure teams, and external vendors to diagnose issues, drive resolution, and improve platform stability over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide vendor-based software support and serve as the technical point of contact for vendors, peers, and infrastructure operations partners.
- Triage incidents by identifying symptoms, determining ownership, and engaging the appropriate teams to drive timely resolution.
- Apply security best practices and coordinate with vendors as needed to implement required controls and remediation.
- Support multiple levels of testing prior to upgrades or releases of infrastructure, software, and service-layer components.
- Perform daily operational activities to maintain platform availability, stability, and performance.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement tools and automation to improve platform administration, maintenance, operational efficiency, and reliability.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Contribute to planning and execution of projects supporting business-unit initiatives, infrastructure updates, and roadmap delivery.
- Proactively ensure compliance with applicable security standards.
- Create and maintain required system documentation.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's or Equivalent
Experience:
5+ years in advanced troubleshooting, with the ability to independently assess complex situations, isolate root causes, and implement or coordinate effective resolutions.
Technical
Skills:
- Database experience writing SQL queries to access and manipulate data (Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle).
- Working knowledge of Windows Server sufficient to partner with vendors and relay requirements.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including data flows, firewall concepts, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work closely with vendors and business partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry exposure such as cruise operations, medical systems, logistics management, or marine maintenance/operations.
- Experience with one or more of the following applications: AMOS, Crunchtime, MXP, Sea Care.
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted services (Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud Platform), with exposure to AWS EC2 environments being a plus.
- Experience with IT service management (e.g., Service Now).
- Familiarity with CI/CD deployment practices and tooling.
- Experience in regulated and/or operationally complex environments.
Additional Information
This role will participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The on-site requirement is subject to change. Comparable role profiles may include Dev Ops Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Application/Product Support Engineer, or Operations Engineer.
