The Lead Industrial Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled professional who is responsible for performing advanced maintenance and repair tasks on industrial equipment and machinery. This role requires in-depth technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. This position is supervising the maintenance crew under the supervision of the Maintenance department manager. Must have supervisory experience.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Equipment maintenance – Perform advanced maintenance tasks, including diagnosing and repairing complex issues in industrial equipment. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability. Report any issues promptly to the supervisor or lead technician.
- Repairs and upgrades – Execute major repairs and equipment upgrades involving electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Collaborate with engineers and Maintenance Leads on equipment enhancements and modifications.
- Troubleshooting - Use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions. Analyze equipment performance data to proactively address potential issues.
- Safety Compliance – Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance tasks. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Team Support – Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to junior maintenance technicians. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize downtime.
- Inventory Management – Maintain accurate records of spare parts and materials inventory. Ensure the availability of necessary spare parts for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Documentation – Keep comprehensive records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements and upgrades. Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for documentation and reporting.
- Cleanliness and organization – Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including maintenance shops and storage spaces. Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored after each use.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Extensive experience in machinery repair and maintenance, electrical work, carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, and plant layout. Leadership and mentoring capabilities for guiding less experienced technicians. Must be able to detect, report and make repairs to defective machinery and equipment. Adaptability to changing maintenance priorities and working under pressure. Experience in the ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions, read and interpret drawings, blueprints, sketches, instructions and specifications.
Must have good communication skills and be able to communicate with many levels of personnel effectively and tactfully in a variety of situations and environments. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment. Must have the ability and motivation to learn. Organizational and inventory management skills. Proficiency in using computers and relevant software application related to the job. The ability to work in a manufacturing and fast-paced environment.
Have reliable transportation and be punctual to each assigned shift. Must be able to work overtime as needed. Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug screen.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent;
Technical Certification or associate degree preferred. Proven experience (7 plus years) in industrial maintenance with proven track record of advanced skills. Supervisory experience with up to ten subordinates required. Project management experience required. Relevant certifications, such as CMRP or specific equipment manufacturer certifications, are desirable. Profound technical knowledge in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and diagnostics skills.
