The Kittery School District is currently seeking a qualified Educational Technician III to be responsible for the implementation and supervision of programming for young adults (up to age 22) with cognitive delays participating in programming beyond the traditional high school experience. This person, in collaboration with the student's special education team, will facilitate and implement learning targeted to specific functional and academic goals for each student while providing guidance with specific transitional and life skills development.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities - Specific duties will be assigned by the teacher with whom the Educational Technician III teaches. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Accompany students on community outings where they will experience vocational training, gain work experience, and practice community life skills.
  • Collaborate with special education team to plan and implement learning aligned to students' academic, functional, community, and transition goals.
  • Implement teaching programs and data collection to assess progress toward academic, functional, and community goals outlined in students' IEP.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies as needed to enhance the learning, community, and work opportunities for students.
  • Meet regularly with special education team including special education teacher and related service providers to share information and discuss student progress.
  • Familiarize yourself with any medical needs of students and communicate with appropriate staff when medical needs arise.
  • Review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the teachers.
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom materials and class management functions.
  • Maintain appropriate certification by attending meetings and trainings as assigned.
  • Exhibit positive language and behavior skills as a model for children and families.
  • Provide input to completion and maintenance of individual observational child assessment.
  • Participate in any necessary required training.
  • Perform any other appropriate duties the Special Education Director/Supervisor deems necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field
  • Must apply and be approved for Maine State authorization as an Educational Technician III or be a Maine certificate holder in good standing for certified teacher, educational specialist, or administrator
  • Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check

Required Knowledge, Abilities and

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of child development, disabilities, family systems and special education methods
  • CPR/First Aid certified (district will provide if needed)
  • Exhibit a positive professional attitude with supervisors, co-workers, students, parents and community
  • Interact with a wide variety of people
  • Provide individual and group services in a variety of settings and models
  • Establish an effective rapport/relationship with children and parents
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an early childhood team
  • Effectively communicate - orally and in writing
  • Maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Adapt therapy techniques to varying personalities and environments
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and initiative

You must be able to pass a background test through the State of Maine Education Department.
