Duties
* You will conduct continuing radiation control surveillance of activities, personnel, and material in assigned areas within a nuclear vessel or shipyard.
* You will perform radiological evaluations of various worksites such as industrial work areas, areas aboard ships, and non-industrial work areas.
* You will verify adequacy of protective clothing and equipment planned for use by various personnel.
* You will participate in all phases of radiation-related emergencies and incidents under the guidance of the supervisor or a more experienced radiological control technician. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* Temporary actions taken under this announcement may be made permanent without further competition.
* Temporary actions taken under this announcement may be terminated at any time before the established not-to-exceed date.
* Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed. Qualifications GS-06 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience performing radiation surveys and utilizing control practices and requirements to implement recurring storage and decontamination activities.
- Experience utilizing ship and shipyard layout (including location of safety and emergency equipment, drain water and sewage systems, harbor, contaminated equipment, and radiation sources) to plan ways to control possible incidents.
- Experience working with ventilation, detection, filtration, and containment material, equipment, and systems to assure adequacy of various standard containment and ventilation systems and procedures.
- Experience interpreting work plans to detect deviations from approved procedures and assure compliance with radiological safety requirements. GS-05 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience applying standardized rules, procedures, and operations that apply to laboratory principles, methods and techniques.
- Experience setting up, operating, maintaining and calibrating a variety of test equipment with known standards.
- Experience selecting and applying standards and guidelines to determine which samples must be further tested and referred for further evaluation.
- Experience gathering, recording, and assembling pertinent data and report observations and findings to appropriate personnel.
