You will assist the Command Safety Officer in coordinating and administering the command safety management system.
You will review local administrative directives and policies to determine impact on safe operations and provide recommendations for inclusion of safe practices and procedures.
You will coordinate, assist, conduct, and/or lead mishap and near miss investigations involving personnel and/or damage to government property.
You will prepare and present briefings on mishap data metrics, statistical analysis, and overall status of the NAVOSH program to command leadership regarding the effectiveness of the program.
You will serve as technical authority and subject matter expert in a specific safety program(s) assigned by the Command Safety Officer.
You will review Standard Operating Procedure, Safe Acts for Employees, and/or Job Hazard Analyses and interpret safety directives from higher authority for local conditions.
You will evaluate new, unusual, and/or complicated operations to identify possible unsafe conditions and/or work practices and recommend safety precautions as appropriate.
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Applying safety and occupational health regulations, standards, and principles in order to administer a safety and health program;
2) Using mishap investigation techniques to investigate mishaps, determine causal factors, and provide recommendations;
3) Using safety management system concepts to continuously improve safety performance;
4) Utilizing management and business acumen tools and techniques sufficient enough to identify, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an organization's safety and occupational health program. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
