Overview
This position is located in the Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Programs. The purpose of this position is to maintain all equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition and to repair or replace any inoperative equipment as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform general maintenance, repair and/or alterations to items such as doors, floors/floor coverings, walls, ceilings, windows, electrical switches, receptacles and light fixtures, commodes, wash basins and showers, deliver and set up canopies and supplies.
- Plumbing repairs that may include removing, cleaning, resealing, and replacing defective parts or units of utility, supply and disposal systems (e.g., dirty traps, damaged/broken tiles, damaged pipes, leaky faucets, stopped-up drains); may install water heaters, garbage disposal units, faucets and sinks.
- Make minor electrical repairs to switches and boxes, replace electric lights, fuses and fixtures, and conduct light maintenance on air conditioning units and facility equipment.
- Carry out carpentry tasks such as measuring, cutting, constructing or repairing wood or wood substitute items (e.g., scaffolds, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, sheathing, roof decking).
- Perform painting assignments using standard coating methods (brushing, rolling, spraying) with materials prepared according to directions and apply coatings to ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs.
- Load and transport equipment and materials to job sites, prepare work, and clean up after completion; assist with setup/breakdown of events or special projects as needed.
- Observe required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations. Operate vehicles to transport tools and materials to work sites.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- This position may be subject to an irregular tour, which could include weekends, holidays and seasonal work.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver?s license.
- Two years working experience in plumbing, carpentry, painting and minor electrical maintenance.
- Must have skill in the safe use of a variety of basic hand tools, portable power tools and use of small construction equipment (scaffolding, tractor, trucks, etc.).
- Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly and effectively to changing program needs and regulations.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, to evaluate and provide reports on work in progress.
- Must possess considerable judgment in interpreting and applying policies, regulations, and procedures.
This position does not have a positive education requirement.
