Instrument Mechanic

Summary

You will serve as a INSTRUMENT MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, ELECTRICAL SHOP of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

• You will receive assignments from the supervisor concerning the priority of systems or devices to be repaired.
• You will comply with all environmental, security, safety, and administrative requirements.
• You will conduct bench tests; adjusting and calibrating instruments.
• You will disassemble instruments/components; inspecting for worn or damaged parts.

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

• Tests and troubleshoots to analyze, repair and maintain physical/dimensional/ optical/electromechanical instrument systems.
• Repairs, overhauls and calibrates unusually complex instruments and equipment.
• Uses a variety of trade tools, measurement devices and test equipment to adapt them to special applications.
• Traces and corrects malfunctions in unusually complex equipment.
• Read and interpret complex multiview drawing, sketches, wiring diagrams, and other technical materials.
