Job Description
You will inspect work to incur conformance to nuclear reactor plant specification prior to submitting that work for formal inspection.
You will produce a very high quality weld on a continuing basis which must pass very high x-ray standards and specifications.
You will direct helpers, apprentices, and fire watchers.
You will observe safety rules and regulations of the activity.
You will perform welding operations primarily on nuclear and non-nuclear piping and pressure vessels.
Requirements Conditions of Employment
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
This is a bargaining unit position.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.
The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION:
* Coordinating movement of equipment and accomplishing the set up and adjustment of welding related machines and equipment to obtain the necessary varying settings of parity, amperage, voltage, gas, or flux flow.
* Accomplishing assignments in accordance with approved welding procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, in compliance with shop practices, safety regulations, and techniques such as mirror welding.
* Operating manual and pneumatic power tools to accomplish grinding and deburring operations for the purpose of cleaning and contouring weldments.
* Setting up, maintaining, and monitoring gas purges in piping systems.
* Aligning and securing work pieces for welding using welding positioners, fixtures, and alignment jigs.
