Position Summary
Department Summary
The Natural Sciences Department at Oregon Institute of Technology, a public polytechnic university, teaches chemistry, biology and physics to undergraduate students in a variety of majors, and houses interdisciplinary undergraduate programs in Biology-Health Sciences and Environmental Sciences, as well as minors in chemistry, applied physics, biology, and sustainability.
Chemistry courses in the Natural Sciences department directly support B.S. programs in the health professions and engineering, with an emphasis on high-quality, student-centered instruction oriented towards students' professional success.
This position will be at Oregon Tech's Portland Metro campus, located near I-5 in Wilsonville, Oregon. The Natural Sciences department has faculty and students in other locations as well, including online courses and at our main campus in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Position Summary
Oregon Tech is accepting applications for Chemistry Adjunct Instructors for the Department of Natural Sciences. This pool is created for an anticipated opening in fall 2021 as well as for future part-time adjunct faculty appointments. Appointment availability will vary from quarter to quarter as a function of student enrollment.
The primary purpose of this position is to teach 200-level general chemistry laboratory classes and/or 300-level organic chemistry laboratory classes. Duties include providing quality instruction for daytime and evening classes, performing grading and relevant preparation for classes and maintaining appropriate records. The successful applicants will work with other faculty, staff, and administrators to deliver an integrated learning experience in chemistry courses and will be available to teach classes on a variety of days and times.

Your credentials will remain active as long as the pool position is available but no more than two years. After two years, if you are still interested, you must reapply to the most current adjunct pool.
Teaching Modality:
These classes will be principally in-person, with some online components possible. Instruction will include both classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory time.

This position will be at Oregon Tech's Portland Metro campus, located near I-5 in Wilsonville, Oregon.
Minimum Requirements Additional Requirements
M.S. in Chemistry or a related discipline, plus relevant teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in chemistry or a related discipline, and 1 year or more of relevant college-level teaching experience as the instructor of record. Expertise in general chemistry as well as in bioorganic and biochemistry, and/or relevant industry experience. Experience using the Canvas learning management system. Experience using virtual meeting and collaboration tools for teaching, such as Zoom, Skype, and Microsoft Teams.
