Job Description

GENERAL

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

The Student Behavior/Success Room Paraprofessional provides academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students assigned to the Success Room or Behavior Support Room. Working under the direction of administrators, teachers, counselors, and special education staff, this position helps students develop appropriate behaviors, coping strategies, and problem‑solving skills while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Must be highly qualified. Two years of study at an institution of higher education with the ability to provide transcripts showing 48 completed semester credits or 72 completed quarter credits, an Associate’s (or higher) degree, OR a passing score on the Praxis exam.

Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations. Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens) and be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets. Responsibilities include student safety and security. This position is considered a safety‑sensitive position.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Necessarily Limited To)
  • Supervise students assigned to the Success Room due to behavioral or emotional concerns.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs), behavior support strategies, and de-escalation techniques as directed.
  • Assist students in reflecting on behaviors and developing positive coping and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Support students in completing classroom assignments while temporarily assigned to the Success Room.
  • Maintain a calm, safe, and respectful environment that promotes positive behavior and accountability.
  • Document student behaviors, interventions, and progress using district‑approved procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, counselors, and families regarding student progress when appropriate.
  • Reinforce school‑wide expectations for behavior, attendance, and academic engagement.
  • Assist with transitions of students back into the classroom following behavioral interventions.
  • Monitor student safety and intervene appropriately during behavioral incidents using approved district crisis intervention techniques.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with district policies and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and appropriate interventions for student with this designation.
  • Effective behavior management and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures.
  • Know and implement the three (3) Tiers of the MTSS model. Assist instructional staff on the implementation of Tier 1 strategies.
  • Compile and report student discipline data to administration.
  • Communicate (written and oral) effectively with parents, staff and administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development related to behavior support, trauma‑informed practices, and student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
