Description QUALIFICATIONSRequired : 40 wpm typing and/or data entry experience;
Problem solving skills, and Medical terminology.
Preferred : 1 year medical office experience; and HIPAA compliance training.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDSMedium physical demand. Bending, squatting, stretching, climbing ladder; ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. Shifting and moving medical records. Climb stairs; walk to various areas to deliver charts. Able to prioritize work and organize time. Able to communicate effectively. Must be able to work independently as well as with co-workers, other staff professionals, patients and visitors. Handle heavy busy workload in a friendly way.
Must be able to handle stress and pressure and have the ability to make decisions.
- Answers request for medical information from various requesters after determining the need to know and proper authorization is received.
- Answers all subpoenas for medical records, and has affidavits signed by appropriate records custodian.
- Works with Risk Manager to ensure reliability of medical information in all legal charts.
- Coordinates with copy service to ensure all records are copied in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.
- Liaison with district attorney’s office, courts, police agencies and public health regarding legal availability and restrictions on requested health information.
- Receives and routes telephone calls courteously and appropriately.
- Monitors fax machine for incoming request.
- Maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Works independently, prioritize work, organize time efficiently and attend to detail.
- Handles stress and pressure and have the ability to make decisions.
- Communicates effectively, both in person and on the telephone.
- Files and purges records as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
