Job Title: Public Health Nurse - Supplemental

Department: Public Health

Salary: $37.99 - $49.46 per hour

General Position Summary

Provides direct public health nursing services to the community and provides nursing services for Immunizations, Reproductive Health, Sexually Transmitted Disease, HIV Testing and Counseling, and communicable disease. May coordinate and oversee the Immunization, Tuberculosis and/or perinatal Hepatitis B case management and tracking Program. This is a part-time position to provide staff coverage or added staff capacity periodically throughout the year.

Essential Functions

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

Performs skilled public health nursing services in clinics, homes or other settings to clients in such areas as Immunizations, Reproductive Health, Communicable Disease, HIV testing and counseling, Tuberculosis and perinatal Hepatitis B case management and tracking Program. Follows established state guidelines and works under physician's standing orders.

Interview clients, gather medical history, perform general health screening, prepare clients for exams, perform basic exams and provide counseling and teaching of basic health care practices; dispense medication per physician's standing order; initiate follow-up care and make referrals to physicians or other community agencies or health resources as necessary.

Documents medical care and maintain client medical charts within the electronic health record system(s).

May obtain lab specimen from clients and provide follow up results to clients; may perform lab work for clients and interpret results within guidelines.

May provide direct services and/ or education in the community setting.

May investigate reportable communicable disease cases, complete proper forms and provide appropriate follow up; such as, immunization, referrals, etc.

May complete or assist in physical inventory of medical supplies and request additional supplies as required.

May collaborate with other community health and social service agencies when necessary to provide optimal health related services.

Complies and adheres to Oregon Health Authority program guidelines for all programs administered in the clinic including but not limited to:
Vaccines for Children, Tuberculosis, Reproductive Health, Communicable Disease, and Immunizations.

Assist with timely and accurate completion of school exclusions in accordance with Oregon Health Authority school exclusion laws.

May serve as a resource to community providers for Tuberculosis guidance in consultation with OHA and/or Health Officer and Standing Orders.

Education, Certification, & Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a current, valid, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon.

Possession of or ability to obtain CPR for the Healthcare Worker Certification.

Possession of a current, valid Oregon Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
