Job Overview

This Accountant role supports the evolution of the accounting function from a transactional model to a principle-based, high-integrity operation by owning balance sheet accounts, reconciliations, and close activities end to end. The role is responsible for preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining GAAP‑compliant records, analyzing variances and accruals, and ensuring audit‑ready documentation while proactively identifying and resolving reconciliation risks. The accountant will collaborate cross‑functionally to improve data flow, clarify ownership, and strengthen controls, while also identifying process improvements that enhance scalability in a cost‑conscious environment.

The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a growing, evolving organization.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Own balance sheet accounts, reconciliations, and close activities end to end.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, maintain GAAP‑compliant records, analyze variances and accruals.
  • Ensure audit‑ready documentation and proactively identify and resolve reconciliation risks.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to improve data flow, clarify ownership, and strengthen controls.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance scalability in a cost‑conscious environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3–7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong foundation in general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, AR/AP accounting, accruals and estimates.
  • Experience supporting or cleaning up reconciliation‑intensive environments.
  • Comfort working in organizations with evolving structure, priorities, and constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high‑volume transaction environments (e.g., fuel, distribution, manufacturing, or similar).
  • Exposure to accounting system implementations or multi‑entity environments.
  • Public accounting or audit background a plus.
  • CPA or CPA‑track preferred but not required.

Job Type & Location

Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN. This is a fully onsite position.

Pay & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr.
