The successful candidate will provide support to the CCS accounting department at the headquarters of a national public private partnership in Knoxville, Tennessee. This person will be required to have strong organizational skills, ability to quickly learn a variety of accounting functions, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, and have the ability and initiative to manage tasks from start to finish once training is completed.
This role requires the ability to function at a high capacity in individual and team situations. The Staff Accountant reports to the Corporate Financial Controller and works closely with CCS headquarters functional area teams and must be able to balance multiple activities with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform daily accounting processes in a complex project-based environment such as accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable/cash receipts, and provide support to payroll and client billing functions.
- Prepare and submit monthly client billings. Compile and prepare supporting documents that will be attached to client billings.
- Perform various month-end processes and reconciliations.
- Coordinate closely with accounting team to meet month-end closing deadlines; mark off assigned tasks in Asana upon completion in a timely manner.
- Attend regular and as needed meetings to provide support, updates, insight, and planning for various departments.
- Provide suggestions for process improvement and streamlining after gaining a thorough understanding of existing workflows and processes.
- Assist in providing supporting documents to external auditors.
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Willingness and ability to complete an exercise to show candidate’s ability to follow instruction and perform basic functions in Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a remote, paperless environment.
- Ability to learn and understand complex general ledger coding and project account structures.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience with accounting for government contractors is preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
