Bookkeeper

Description

We are looking for a dependable Bookkeeper to support a mission-driven nonprofit in Knoxville, Tennessee. This part-time opportunity is a contract position with the potential to become permanent, offering 15-20 hours per week, scheduled three or four days a week
-Monday through Thursday. Organization is closed on Fridays. The person in this role will help keep financial operations accurate, organized.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee daily bookkeeping activity by entering and maintaining accurate financial records for routine transactions.

- Reconcile banking and accounting information regularly to ensure balances are correct and discrepancies are resolved promptly.

- Administer donation tracking and electronic giving records, making sure contributions are properly documented and posted.

- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for hourly, salaried, and event-based staff using payroll software with a high level of accuracy.

- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including recording incoming funds and preparing payments as needed.

- Produce monthly financial reports and maintain organized records for review by internal leadership and external stakeholders.

- Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks, including serving as backup support for weekly bulletin preparation when necessary.

Requirements

- At least 2 years of experience in bookkeeping, payroll, or financial administration.

- Working knowledge of accounting systems and the ability to learn and use cloud-based financial software effectively.

- Experience with payroll processing platforms such as Inovah or a comparable system is preferred.

- Strong background in account reconciliation, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

- High attention to detail with the ability to manage sensitive financial information confidentially.

- Solid organizational, time-management, and data entry skills with the ability to work independently in a part-time schedule.

- Prior experience supporting nonprofit accounting operations is an advantage.
