Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for the daily operation of a job site, including scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. Supervises all direct labor positions on the assigned project. Manages and oversees any contracted work on the site to ensure successful project completion.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on the basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, based on knowledge of available tools, equipment, and building methods.
  • Interacts with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develops and utilizes “look ahead” schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues.
  • Coordinates the pre‑construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
  • Directs procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Ensures all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress, including supervisory personnel, craft personnel, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Works with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
  • Confers with supervisory, engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure it conforms to specifications and construction schedules.
  • Manages the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs and adjusts work schedules accordingly (new construction superintendents only).
  • Works with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel from project to project, minimize hiring and layoffs, manage crew mixes and work assignments, and may terminate company craft personnel not performing according to company policies.
  • Works in conjunction with the project manager in preparing the Project Management Plan.
  • Ensures company policies, such as safety, equal opportunity, quality standards, and housekeeping requirements, are implemented consistently.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or a related field, or equivalent experience and at least 5 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Experience with in healthcare construction required.
  • Experienced leading field teams on healthcare projects.
  • HCAI/OSHPD background required.
  • Strong communication and people‑leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to and from the project site.
  • Understanding and application of building codes and design requirements; accurate reading of blueprints.
  • Knowledge of subcontractors’ scopes of work and tolerances.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; basic Spanish preferred.
  • Good administrative skills: monitors progress and coordination of work activities; keeps other members informed of progress and problems.
  • Strong management skills: establishes techniques to effectively monitor and supervise subordinates and follow up on delegated assignments.
  • Maintains integrity and adheres to ethics and organizational policies.
  • Excellent problem‑solving ability.
  • Team player, works well with coworkers, customers, subcontractors, and others.
  • Maintains good interpersonal relationships, uses tact, and is sensitive to others’ needs.
  • Organized: establishes priorities and actions for handling multiple tasks.

  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Initiative: self‑starter who works well with minimal supervision and strives for high performance.
  • Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, telephone). Proficiency with spreadsheet and word‑processing software.
  • Knowledge and use of CMiC preferred.
Salary Range and Bonus

The full salary range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000. This position is eligible for a target bonus.
