Project Executive
Merit Construction, Inc. is an award‑winning Knoxville‑based general construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full‑time opening for a Project Executive.
Position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
Responsible for coordinating activities across multiple construction projects, ensuring Merit’s principals and processes are followed to achieve the best possible project results. This position also retains existing clients through client stewardship and supports new client development activities.
- Leadership – Directly manage project teams on assigned projects, including planning, assigning, and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, providing training, overseeing productivity, and offering recommendations on hiring, terminations, pay increases, and promotions.
- Mentorship and capability development – Foster the growth of those managed by establishing clear expectations, providing feedback, and ensuring training is completed.
- Pre‑construction – Lead and manage the project pre‑construction process to secure projects with existing and new clients under favorable and profitable terms.
- Project performance – Accountable for overall performance of assigned projects, measured in safety, quality, customer satisfaction, financials, SOP compliance, and schedules.
- Risk management – Actively anticipate and mitigate risks including contract review, subcontractor qualifications, change management, and safety.
- Communication – Clearly communicate the company’s mission, vision, and values and facilitate effective communication within project teams.
- Safety:
Safety on our job sites is our #1 focus. The Project Executive plays an integral role and will collaborate with the Director of Safety in leading project teams to adhere to safety policies and practices. - Quality:
Select subcontractors and suppliers, review field reports, and help find solutions for issues that may arise throughout a project. - Customer satisfaction:
Build and maintain strong client relationships, implement a client stewardship plan, and perform customer development activities for potential new clients. - Financial:
Hold project teams accountable for managing costs, following change management and cost accounting procedures, and preparing accurate monthly financial reports. - Standard operating procedures:
Ensure project team performance and outcomes comply with company processes and systems. - Schedules:
Create and maintain project schedules, hold teams accountable for adherence, and update schedules with near‑term planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or another related technical field.
- Subject‑matter expertise in specialized areas preferred (e.g., healthcare, education, multi‑family).
- 15+ years of progressively increasing related experience with a proven track record of securing and completing projects that deliver high client satisfaction.
- Full working knowledge of Merit culture, staff values, leadership style, terminology, formal processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of construction operations.
- Advanced analytical, project/process management, and technical skills.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills.
- Basic computer, office administrative, and office equipment operation skills.
