Project Engineer
Job Description
The Project Engineer supports commercial construction operations and works closely with Project Managers to deliver projects on time and within budget. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, organized professional who is eager to grow a career in project management within a fast-paced construction environment. The Project Engineer coordinates project documentation, supports project execution, and helps ensure quality, cost control, and client satisfaction throughout the life of each project.
Responsibilities
+ Support Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects.
+ Manage and maintain project documentation, including plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and closeout materials.
+ Assist with project scheduling, track progress, and coordinate activities across project teams.
+ Support cost tracking, change orders, and project reporting to help keep projects on budget.
+ Review project plans and specifications to ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
+ Coordinate with estimating, operations, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to support smooth project delivery.
+ Prepare project status updates and assist with ongoing project analysis and reporting.
+ Complete site walks to support project coordination, verify scope alignment, and identify field-level considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and support overall team success on multiple projects.
+ Apply construction management and project coordination best practices to enhance project performance and client satisfaction.
Essential Skills
+ Experience supporting construction projects in a project engineering or project management role.
+ Construction management experience with exposure to commercial construction environments.
+ Hands-on experience with change orders and RFIs in a construction context.
+ Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills.
+ Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
+
Experience with project scheduling and use of scheduling software is a plus.
+ Experience in project coordination across estimating, operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
+ Interest in long-term career growth in project management and commercial construction.
+ Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and contributing to team success.
Work Environment
The role primarily operates in an office environment with periodic visits to active construction sites. You will work in a fast-paced commercial construction setting with multiple ongoing projects and frequent collaboration with project teams, vendors, and subcontractors. Office work involves using standard business software, including Microsoft Office and project scheduling tools, while site visits require attention to field conditions and coordination with on-site personnel.
The environment supports long-term growth and offers exposure to a wide variety of commercial construction projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $31.25/hr.
