Overview
North American Rail Solutions (NARS) is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead a dynamic team in a fast-growing, fast-paced work environment. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, collaborates with engineers and subcontractors to determine project needs, and oversees staff performance. The Superintendent I follows quality standards and ensures the safety and security of the construction site. The role requires full-time availability (40 hrs/week) with overtime, on call (24/7), alternating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities- Enforce safety and quality control policies among employees and subcontractors to ensure the project runs smoothly and on schedule
- Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, supervisors and others to determine project needs
- Maintain a daily diary of all activities and site conditions and manage the punch list and closeout process for the job
- Provide front-line supervision of crew members and onsite feedback on their performance
- Train other crew members upon hire and welcome the team
- Monitor and report on project progress
- Order the appropriate equipment and arrange for regular maintenance
- Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
- Keep track of material stock and orders
- Ensure the job site is safe, clean, and orderly
- Resolve on-site issues and emergencies
- Comply with company and federal rules, policies, and procedures – wear required safety equipment, respond to and act on safety concerns
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree in construction/business management, or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of experience in a construction supervisory role
- 5+ years of experience railroad construction or heavy civil construction
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FMCSA, DOT, FRA)
- Knowledge of rail maintenance and/or construction operations
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
