Role Description The Traveling Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based out of Knoxville, TN, overseeing day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects across the region. This role coordinates subcontractors and suppliers, manages site scheduling, and ensures work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards. The Traveling Superintendent conducts daily site inspections, leads safety meetings, and maintains project documentation, including logs, reports, and updates to project management.

They collaborate closely with project managers, owners, and inspectors, communicate progress and issues, and help resolve field challenges. Regular travel to job sites is required, along with consistent presence on active project locations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supervising commercial construction projects, including coordination of subcontractors and field crews.
  • Strong skills in construction planning, scheduling, and sequencing of work using project management tools or software.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations (including OSHA standards), and quality control practices on job sites.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and related technical documents.
  • Proficient in site documentation, daily reports, and communication with project stakeholders and inspectors.
  • Effective leadership, team coordination, and conflict-resolution abilities in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Reliable travel capacity, willingness to work on various project sites, and maintain on-site presence as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or a degree in construction-related fields is beneficial.
  • Experience with commercial projects in the Southeast region and previous superintendent or foreperson roles is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record; ability to meet physical demands of active construction sites.
